Pune city is the ninth most populous city of India and second largest city of Maharashtra state with estimated population of above 4 million. In 18 th Century, it was once the base of the Peshwas, the prime minister of the Maratha Empire, which lasted 1674 to 1818 and so was one of the most important political centres on the Indian subcontinent.
